Feedback on the maintenance and technical breakdown of Friday, June 27


Following the request of some players, we would like to address the outage that occurred on Friday, June 27 at 9:40 PM, which made our game servers inaccessible for 24 hours.

The 6 PM Maintenance

As you know, we work tirelessly to improve your gaming experience and minimize lags and connection delays as much as possible. To do this, maintenance was scheduled on Friday at 6 PM and was supposed to last 1 hour. The goal of this operation was to transfer our connection, security servers, and IPs from the OVH host to a Private Annex host. This would reduce monthly costs while ensuring better control of the infrastructure.

This maintenance, which lasted 1 hour and 5 minutes and therefore ended at 7:05 PM, allowed for this transfer, and a significant improvement in the server’s Global Ping was observed, which made us very happy!

9:30 PM, the chaos

After several hours without any issues, we launched the evening RP session and were about to reach our peak number of connected players when suddenly, at exactly 9:40 PM, the routing infrastructure (the system redirecting your connections to our game IP) failed. The owner of this system was not present and thus unavailable for a quick fix.

At that moment, Brokeos, our technician and the person who keeps everything running smoothly on the server, was also absent for personal reasons. The rest of the team, having no qualifications or knowledge in networking and also not having access to the source of the problem, were stuck.

To put it simply, when the routing server went down, all our remote management access also went down. There was no way to revert to a configuration or switch to our backup systems.

At 10:30 PM, we decided to leave the situation as it was until the return of Brokeos and our new access provider.

Saturday, 8 PM

After long deliberation, control was regained, and a return to OVH was decided with a complete reconfiguration of the server in urgency to ensure the server’s return as quickly as possible.

Some may notice that the action time was rather long, but this is due to the fact that our actions are governed by the availability of each staff member.

The server became accessible again at 9:30 PM, and the outage lasted 23 hours and 50 minutes. We learn from our mistakes, have expressed our dissatisfaction with our access provider regarding their response time, and will implement precautionary measures in case a similar event occurs.

We know that some were frustrated about not being able to play for 24 hours. We assure you that we did our best to handle this issue as quickly as possible and will continue to keep you informed of our future actions to avoid similar crises.
